Ever feel like Del Boy when you try and speak the local lingo on holiday? You could always try and learn some basics to get you by and would be something useful to fill up any spare time.
A language course is probably the best but more expensive option to choose, with evening classes being the most convenient for the majority of people.
There are many books, audio tapes, cd's, dvds and videos available on how to learn the language of your choice if you don't wish to attend any classes or just fancy trying to see if you enjoy it whilst not hurting your wallet too much!
Once you have a basic understanding there is no better way of getting confident in your choice of language than spending some time in a country where it is spoken. Spending some time in a place where English isn't the first language gives you a chance to try out your new skills on the people who speak it fluently.
Well imagine you are trying to order a meal in a restaurant in Paris or want to get directions to the beach on your Summer holiday, wouldn't you rather be able to speak in the local language and not sound like a plonker.
